Building something?

Connected products keep getting more complex, and technical debt arrives faster than anyone plans for. I write about how a small team can borrow more of what already works — the tools and the processes behind them — so development speeds up instead of bogging down.

The thinking behind it

Three principles run through everything I send

  • Borrow the process, not just the tool. A package is the visible artifact of a process — maintainers, review, CI, security response. Reuse the work, not only the code.
  • Release first. Decouple the pieces so each moves at its own lifecycle. Shipping is a capability you keep, not an event you survive.
  • Platform thinking. Be intentional about the foundation before you build on it. How you assemble matters more than what you assemble.
